Bujtina Çupa was born from a simple dream: to share the warmth of Albanian hospitality with travelers from around the world. Our name, "Bujtina," means "guesthouse" in Albanian, and "Çupa" is our family name — a legacy we're proud to carry.
Opened in December 2024, our guesthouse is built in the traditional style of an Albanian stone castle, blending centuries-old architecture with modern comforts. Every stone, every beam, every detail has been placed with care, creating a space that honors our heritage while welcoming the future.
Located along the historic Rruga e Arbërit, we sit at the crossroads of history and natural beauty. The mountains that surround us have witnessed centuries of Albanian culture, and now they witness the joy of guests discovering our land for the first time.

From Dream to Reality
The Dream Begins
Our family first envisioned creating a traditional guesthouse that would share Albanian culture with the world.

We began building our stone castle, using traditional Albanian construction methods passed down through generations.

What does “bujtina” mean?
Bujtinë (definite form bujtina) is the Albanian word for a guesthouse or inn: a house where travellers are given a bed and a meal for the night. It comes from the verb bujt, to lodge or to stay overnight as a guest, the same root as bujar, generous. In the old Albanian highlands the bujtina was often simply the room a family kept ready for whoever knocked after dark.
Çupa is our family name. So Bujtina Çupa means, quite literally, the Çupa family’s guesthouse, and that is exactly what it is: nine rooms, one kitchen, one table.

- In the village of Fshat on the Rruga e Arbërit, just outside Klos in Dibër County, northern Albania, in the Mat valley.
- How far is it from Tirana?
- About 35 kilometres and 35 to 40 minutes by car via the Rruga e Arbërit and the Murriz Tunnel, which opened in March 2025.
- When did it open?
- December 2024. The building is new, built in the style of the traditional stone kulla towers of the Mat region.
